Hotel Babel: a new hotel with History.An original XIX century house, first home to an important politician in the beginnings of the Argentinean History. Later, in the XX century, the house was turned into a conventillo, popular housing for immigrant families just arrived from Spain and Italy.Hotel Babel has a deep connection with the old roots of Buenos Aires. This two-storey mansion, architecturally protected by the government, was saved from abandonment and restored into a warm, intimate and sophisticated hotel.Past and contemporary trends find a harmonious way together, thanks to the choice of the materials used in the refurbishing. Dark Paraiso wood covering ceiling and walls, brought from the northern province of Misiones, the same wood used 200 years ago. Steel and glass adds to a modern, contemporary feel. Original doors and windows fully restored. Everything provides a permanent dialogue between the old and the new. The huge window wall allows the communication between the inside with the outdoor patio, where all the rooms meet. The balconies on the first floor overlook this calm, quiet place. From this first floor, an excellent view of the roofs of the beautiful Aduana (Customs) headquarters. An amazing example of Buenos Aires finest classic architecture, mostly found in the streets of San Telmo, the old quartier of the city.Hotel Babel allows travelers from all over the world to grasp some the old city magnificence, recognized in its monumental buildings, bright cobbled streets and domes and statues, scattered all over San Telmo and Downtown. The hotel building itself is a very good paradigm of colonial, old Spanish architecture, and the rooms, all different in size, maintain the original layout of the house.
